The Event

The starting time for these tasting events will be 5:30pm unless otherwise decided by the host.

Wine

The group is interested in good quality wine and we have agreed that an average of $50 a bottle will achieve that.

Tasting notes and wine descriptions help us to record our impressions and/or ratings of the wine for our own use (which will sometimes be shared and compared).

The wine chosen does not have to be available and often won't be in the vintage served.  However, if the current vintage is available, the current price and store location should be included in the notes.

Sometimes the price will be difficult to report.  The objective is to recover your replacement costs, so for wines available in BC, use the price of the current vintage offered as the wine value.  For wines bought elsewhere and not available in BC, use the latest vintage price if it is available.  If the wine is no longer available anywhere (that you know about), use your actual cost.  Convert all foreign currency when reporting prices.

The amount of wine to be served can be difficult to determine.  It will likely be somewhere more than half bottle per person and less than a bottle each; perhaps about 6 bottles for 8 people.

Food

Since these tastings are essentially an evening meal with wine, please bring a small plate that would suffice for one course for 8 in a 3-4 course meal.  Naturally, the selection will depend on the wines chosen and any cooking limitations with transported food. Some of the members have food allergies, so please refer to the Members page to see what they are.

Unless the host determines otherwise, the food will be served as courses rather than all food served together.

The objective is to select food courses that will complement the wines chosen for the evening.  The host will determine if a food course will be served at the same time as a specific wine or if all of the wines will be available on the table during the meal.
