Englishman River Estuary Hiking Loop

The Trip

Drive to the Englishman River Esturary entrance parking lot (49.32125, -124.293375) to begin the hike.

The trail is hard packed earth and easy walking, although you have to watch out for the occasional root embedded in the path.  After a heavy rain it can be muddy in spots, but during the summer it's almost always dry.

Part of the 2.5km route is along the river bank, part beside the ocean beach, and partly in the trees and woods.  It's very peaceful and a great way to spend an hour with nature on a Sunday afternoon.

I have not included an elevation profile for this loop as it is virtually flat.

Top Bridge Hiking Loop

The Trip

Drive to Greig Road, whihc comes off Highway 19A just acrosss from the Rathtrevor turn off. Travel south on it until it turns right and park in the parking lot there (49.30939, -124.27565). You can follow the route below or choose your own, as there are many paths to take in this park-like area.

This route is only 2km long, but it is easy to increase the distance by taking one of the many side trails.

You can also access the Top Bridge Trail from Tuan Road and Industrial Way in South Parksville (49.30837, -124.27051).

The paths are all hardpack dirt with few rocks and roots, so it's easy walking or cycling. Some of it's in the open with views of the surrounding area, but much of it is in the wooded areas.
