We flew from Nanaimo to Brindisi, Italy via Vancouver, Munich, and Rome, staying overnight in Rome to
catch the last leg in the morning. We were met at the Brindisi airport by a Road Scholar driver, who took us
to Lecce and the Patria Palace Hotel.
The real tour started the next day with a tour of Lecce and in the following 15 days Road Scholar took us to
many of the smaller cities and towns in Puglia, Basilicata, and Calabria to show us the best of Southern
Italy.
The Slide Show below tries to give a flavour of what we saw, but a typical day included a bus ride to a site, a
lecture on what we would see or something relevant to the theme of the trip, and a walking tour of the highlight
area of the day. Most lunches and dinners were organized and usually included local
fare accompanied by local (often very local!) wines. The few meals on our own were
opportunities to try something unusual and turned out to be quite special.
We left the tour in Catanzaro, Cambria, and flew via Rome to Split to join another Road Scholar tour of
Croatia.
The Slide Show
I used a software tool to convert our photos
into a slide show and then into a video. After uploading to YouTube, it is now available for viewing. You can
access the video in either the embedded frame below or you can use the link after that to
view it on your TV (if you have a smart TV or another way to access YouTube).
Make sure that you select full screen to view this
video properly.
